Why join the Rio Tinto SimFer team?
The Simandou project is imminently due to become the world’s largest greenfield mining project and the largest ever undertaken on the African continent. This once-in-a-generation megaproject will not only place Guinea on the world stage as a top global producer of high-quality, low impurity iron ore, it will also set a new benchmark for large scale project development throughout the region.
Guided by Rio Tinto’s global industry leadership in iron ore and mine development, the Rio Tinto SimFer team is commited to exacting international standards in operational health and safety, governance, social wellbeing, and environmental stewardship.
Rio Tinto SimFer currently employs approximately 300 direct full-time employees – a number set to increase rapidly into the thousands in the coming months and years. Roles with Rio Tinto SimFer include unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled labour, technical, supervisory staff, and upper management.

Prioritising local employment
Rio Tinto is committed to employing as many local citizens as possible at its projects and operations wherever we operate. Inevitably, however, during the early construction phases of the Simandou project, some specialist skills will have to be imported.
Together with the Government of the Republic of Guinea and our strategic partners, we are focused on implementing initiatives and policies to upskill local people and ensure fair distribution of employment opportunities.
As the project footprint and development activities transition from planning through to construction and operation, we know that the number of local employment opportunities will grow – both directly and indirectly.
