Dantilia, Faranah Prefecture — Rio Tinto Guinea officially transferred the Dantilia community nursery to the local community during a ceremony held on 7 April, at the nursery site in the Faranah Prefecture.

Located in the sub‑prefecture of Dantilia, the community nursery is a project led by Rio Tinto Guinea and implemented by Enviro Africa, in close collaboration with local authorities and beneficiary communities. The nursery is designed as a local, sustainable model for the production of forest and agroforestry seedlings, capable of supporting both the environmental rehabilitation needs of the Simandou Project and Guinea’s national reforestation priorities, while creating long‑term economic opportunities for local communities.

The handover ceremony was marked by the signing of the official transfer agreement, formally transferring the nursery infrastructure to the community management committee, composed of local authorities and the Dantilia operating group.

Safiatou Diallo, General Manager Regional and Economic Development for Rio Tinto Guinea, stated: “The Dantilia nursery is a symbol of a development model that brings together environmental protection, local economic opportunity and community empowerment. Today’s handover is an act of trust, responsibility and shared commitment to the future of Dantilia.”

Through this initiative, Rio Tinto Guinea reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development, local content and community empowerment.

Since its start in 2023, the project has delivered significant results, including:

  • Production of more than 35,000 seedlings, with an annual capacity of up to 100,000 plants
  • Creation of nine direct jobs
  • Training of 77 people, the majority of whom are women, in market gardening and nursery management
  • Contributions to the rehabilitation of several hectares of land
