Rio Tinto supports the Guinean Red Cross with the official launch of an assistance programme for flood and landslide victims in Coyah and Manéah
Coyah, Republic of Guinea — Rio Tinto Guinea participated on April 7, 2026, in the official launch of an assistance programme for communities affected by flooding and landslides in 2025 in the prefectures of Coyah and Manéah. The programme is implemented by the Guinean Red Cross (GRC) with financial support from Rio Tinto amounting to USD 500,000.

Following heavy rainfall in July and August 2025, Coyah and Manéah were severely impacted by flooding and landslides, resulting in loss of life, significant material damage and the displacement of many families. The humanitarian response led by the Guinean Red Cross includes essential assistance to nearly 2,000 affected people, with support including food and drinking water assistance as well as the provision of emergency shelters and sanitary kits.
Ibrahima Kalil Tounkara, Senior Manager External Affairs at Rio Tinto Guinea, stated: “Our thoughts go out to all those affected by the devastating landslide in Manéah. We have made a contribution to support the Guinean authorities and the Guinean Red Cross in their rescue and reconstruction efforts for the benefit of affected communities. This support reflects our deep commitment to working hand in hand with the Guinean people and to helping strengthen their resilience.”
This initiative is not linked to Rio Tinto’s operational footprint. The support provided reflects Rio Tinto’s broader commitment to Guinea, to supporting communities and contributing to resilient and inclusive development beyond the perimeter of its operations.
