SimFer’s women come together to shape an inclusive Simandou

April 3, 2026

Conakry, Republic of Guinea — To mark International Women’s Day, the Simandou Moussolou Committee organised discussion forums for women working on the Simandou project, in Conakry and on the mine site over the course of the month of March. The committee is an internal initiative dedicated to women working for Rio Tinto Guinea and SimFer, the joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and the CIOH consortium led by Chinalco.

The forums aimed to create a space for dialogue to share the realities faced by women in the mining sector, strengthen collaboration between colleagues, and identify priority needs to improve inclusion. More than 150 women from across the project attended, sharing experiences and ideas to ensure women’s voices play a leading role at the heart of Simandou.

Established in March 2024, the Simandou Moussolou Committee works to strengthen the role of women within the Simandou project and to support their full participation in a sector that remains largely male‑dominated.

Hadja Djenabou, Secretary General of the Committee, shared:
“For the past two years, we have been moving forward step by step with a simple goal: to give women on the project a voice, and ensure they are recognized as key contributors to the success of Simandou. We are proud to see women participating actively in the project, within a business that is actively supporting diversity and inclusion, as we see more women join across technical and support function roles.”

Sabrina Marlier, GM Human Resources, stated:
“The work of the Simandou Moussolou Committee is an important contribution to building a more inclusive project. Creating spaces where women can share their experiences, be heard and influence change strengthens our culture and makes Simandou a better place to work for everyone.”

Since its creation, the Simandou Moussolou Committee has led several initiatives in support of health, dialogue and empowerment of women working on the Simandou project. In October 2024, the committee organised breast cancer awareness and screening sessions in Conakry and Canga. In 2025, the committee supported healthcare facilities in Donka and Beyla through donations of medical equipment and childcare items.
